Types of Earthing Systems

TT Earthing System
The TT earthing system is a standalone system where each electrical appliance or device is connected directly to the earth. This system provides the most effective protection against electrical shocks and is commonly used in areas where the soil is highly resistive, making it difficult to achieve a low resistance path to the ground.
TN Earthing System
The TN earthing system is a common earthing system used worldwide. In this system, the neutral wire of the electrical circuit is connected to the earth at a single point, usually at the main switchboard. All metal parts of electrical equipment and appliances are then connected to the earth via the protective earthing conductor. The TN earthing system is relatively easy to install and maintain and is suitable for areas with low soil resistivity.
IT Earthing System
The IT earthing system is a relatively uncommon earthing system used mainly in critical applications such as hospitals, data centers, and airports. In this system, the neutral point of the transformer is not connected to the earth, and the electrical system is isolated from the ground. Instead, a separate earth electrode is installed for each circuit, and a monitoring system continuously measures the insulation resistance between the circuit and the earth. If the insulation resistance drops below a predetermined value, an alarm is triggered, and the faulty circuit is isolated.
